The Book Traces project originated at the University of Virginia (UVA) in 2014 with a focus on identifying library books, primarily 19th century imprints, that contain interventions such as marginalia that have scholarly value, and recording these interventions. The project started with a crowd-sourced site for collecting photos from libraries around the country; in 2015, CLIR granted funding for a more systematic cataloging initiative at UVA to encourage further scholarly engagement.
The webinar, presented by Book Traces’ Andrew Stauffer, Kara M. McClurken, and Kristin H. Jensen, explored the ways in which EAST and BookTraces might pursue collaborative projects.
