Members

The Eastern Academic Scholars’ Trust (EAST) offers membership to both individual libraries and institutions as well as to library consortia who may join EAST either as Retention or Supporting Partners.

  • Individual Retention Partners and Consortia Retention Partners contribute financial support to EAST, participate in collection analysis work, and commit to retain agreed upon titles in their local collections and make these titles available to other EAST members through the EAST Lending Network.
  • Individual Supporting Partners and Consortia Supporting Partners contribute financial support to EAST but do not participate in collection analysis work or make retention commitments. They participate in the EAST Lending Network.

All member libraries have opportunities to participate in EAST governance though their individual or representative Voting Members as well as contribute to operational policies and procedures of EAST through Operational Contacts.

As of January, 2023, EAST has well over 100 members in 15 states from Maine to Florida. Libraries interested in joining EAST can review our Criteria for Joining EAST and contact Susan Stearns, EAST Project Director, at sstearns@eastlibraries.org.

Membership in EAST has a number of benefits, please see the Value of EAST document

The map below shows the geographic distribution of EAST members.

EAST libraries, either individually or through group representation, appoint a Voting Member who has responsibility for voting on issues brought to the full membership from the Project Team or the EAST Board of Directors. The Voting Members are also responsible for nominations to the EAST Board of Directors and non-executive Operations Committee.

For more information regarding the governance and operational structure of EAST, please see the Governance page.

Land and Labor Acknowledgement

The EAST Land and Labor Acknowledgement

EAST wishes to acknowledge that our member libraries occupy ancestral land from many of the First American Nations including those on this list.

We also acknowledge the hundreds of thousands of enslaved people from Africa and the Americas who preceded us and whose labor was taken to build and sustain many of the academic and research institutions which are members of EAST.

This acknowledgement commits us to work to dismantle these systems of oppression and to work for peace and reconciliation as caretakers of the lands we occupy.
