EAST Call for Nominations for Board and Operations Committee

The EAST Board of Directors is currently seeking nominations to fill vacancies on the Board and Operations Committee beginning in January 2026. To submit nominations, please complete the nomination form for the Board and/or Operations Committee by September 30, 2025.

Board of Directors

About the EAST Board of Directors
The EAST Board provides the primary governance of EAST and represents the diverse voices of the membership. The Board has fiduciary responsibility for EAST as well as oversight of EAST’s strategic directions and is typically composed of library deans/directors or other senior staff. Directors serve staggered 3-year terms. For more information, see the EAST General Governance Policies.

At this time, we are seeking nominations for:

  • (3) directors to serve three-year terms
  • (1) director to serve a two-year term

Eligibility and Responsibilities
Ideally, slated candidates will represent the diversity of EAST member libraries. For example, different sizes and degree-granting levels, different regions/states, public and private institutions, and EAST consortia partners.

Board members are typically senior administrators, while any library team member is eligible to serve on the Operations Committee. Consortia staff engaged with EAST are also eligible for nomination.

Operations Committee

About the EAST Operations Committee
The EAST Operations Committee (OC) is an elected body responsible for the development, implementation, and operationalization of policies and procedures for EAST. Any policy or procedural recommendations from the OC require the approval by the Board of Directors prior to implementation. The OC works closely with the EAST Program Team and may recommend the appointment of ad hoc working groups to address specific policy or procedural issues. Recently, the work of the Operations Committee included exploring additions to and clarification of the ephemera list, retention reversal projects and providing feedback on strategic directions. OC members serve staggered two-year terms.

Eligibility and Responsibilities
Ideally, slated candidates will represent the diversity of EAST member libraries. For example, different sizes and degree-granting levels, different regions/states, public and private institutions, and EAST consortia partners.

Nominees for the OC will bring experience in collections, technical services, access services, and/or systems. Members of the Operations Committee serve for two years and attend four 1-hour virtual meetings throughout the year, as well as read background documentation in order to provide recommendations on EAST’s operations. Although prior participation in, and knowledge of, the work of EAST is highly desirable, it is not required for membership.

The Board is particularly interested in ensuring a diverse and representative composition of both bodies.

Process
Nominations can be submitted via the EAST Board and/or Operations Committee Nomination Form. Self nominations are welcome. Nominations will be open through Tuesday, September 30. Nominees will then be contacted to confirm their interest and to provide a candidate statement to appear on the ballot. Nominations will be brought to the Board of Directors for approval prior to being added to the slate of candidates for voting by the membership, anticipated in late fall. The elected committee members can expect to begin their service in January 2026.

If you are interested in nominating yourself or another candidate and would like further information about the Board and its responsibilities, feel free to contact the EAST Program Team at info@eastlibraries.org.
